'Die defending 3A state champion Park City boys tennis team started off the 2005 season with a clean sweep of the Skyline Eagles, last years 5A state champs, winning 5-0. The Eagles, who retuned with a large portion of last years slate championship team, proved to be no match for the powerful Miners. According to head coach Warren Pretorius. his team actually struggled in some matches, but still were able to earn wins across the board. If the Miners can dominate one of the top teams in the state in their first match, then things bode well for the future. "Hie Skyline coach said on paper, this team should win 5A again, so this match was a good one," said Prelorius. adding that his team is not playing at 100 percent. "Even though we were 5-0, 1 don't think we played to our potential," added Prelorius. In fact, the team is already dealing with one injury. "'Hie score 5-0 looks one-sided, but the No. 1 doubles team had a tough match. Although I don'I think the win was ever in doubt, I don't think they played their best match," said Prelorius. Part of the trouble for the No. 1 doubles steam stemmed from David Marsh's recent return after an injury. Marsh and his partner Matt Kunkel played their first game as team during the Skyline matchup. Regardless. Marsh and Kunkel beat Skyline's Cole Paterson and Collin Snow 6-3. 3-6. 7-6. And thai was the only match up that went to three sets. They were all playing against ace tournament guys. I couldn't have asked for more.'1 said Pretorius. The No. 2 doubles team of Danny Clark and Taylor Smith also had a two-set match, beating Skyline's own version of the Olson twins, Mark and Steve, 6-2.1-5.
