GRAYSON WEST/PARK RECORD By APIA WALDBURGER Of the Record staff It's the mid-point of the prep soccer season and the Miners are preparing for the downward slide into the playoffs and state championship. According to Head Coach Chip Cook, her team is more consistent, making good passes and strengthening team play. "I feel like they're bringing up their level as the season goes on. Hopefully they can remain consistent." 'Hie Miners, who are ranked third in Region 10, were able to dominate on the field this week. On Tuesday they look on the Uintah Ules and came away with the 11-1 win. Seven Miners were able to score in the lopsided victory. Kelly Islieb led the way with three goals, followed by the two goals each from Elli Reed and Courtney Gaylord. Marlee Davis. Michaela Kerr. Stevie Thurin and Alyssa VonPultkammer, who also contributed three assists. "We thought Uintah was going to be better. Uintah likes to pull an off-sides trap, but against a team with a lot of speed, it's not an effective defense. We got a lot of breakaways. Thai type of defense just leaves a lot of openings," said Cook. Uintah wasn't even the Miners biggest win this week. Thursday. Park City competed against Granite High School and managed to shut them out 11-0. Ashley Allen led the team by scoring three goals. Eight other teams members contributed one goal each. Cook used the game as a tool to expose some of her younger players to varsity play. "We played the whole freshman, sophomore and junior varsity teams in the game. We played everyone." After such easy games, the Miners must refocus their determination to take on their region rival. Judge, on Tuesday. The Miners are seeking a little revenge after losing to Judge on their home field just two weeks ago. "We just need to work hard at practice. We need to realize that Judge is next and stay focused." said Cook. "It's hard to make the transition from easy games to the tough games. We don't change the style of play for weaker teams." 'Hie Miners should be ready for the Bulldogs after making consistent improvement during the first half of the season. ''Their team play they've improved so much winning 50/50 balls. They're marking on defense and slaying focused for the entire game," said Cook. Cook believes her team is looking good heading into Ihe second half of the season. "They've made some good improvement. They're confident. rI"hey just have to make sure they focus on the basics." Hie Miners will head down the canyon to take on the Judge Bulldogs next Tuesday at 5 p.m. , "Auytl}ing.ca,u happen. We just need to take steps to not let the other team catch us off guard," says C'ook.
