BRETT HART Sports Editor BOUNTIFUL As Viewmont and Davis faced off Wednesday night in a prep hockey battle for fifth fif-th place, the duel promised to be the battle of the goalies. When the dust, or in this case, ice chips settled, the gruelling matchup had lived up to that promise for most of the match anyway. Viking goalie Lance Osc arson led his team to a 4-2 win with 33 saves outlasting Davis goal keeper Matt Jamieson, who ended the game with 18. After first-period play ended, the contest was deadlocked at 1-0 in Viewmont' s favor for almost two complete stanzas. Viking skater Todd Duke gave Viewmont the 1 -point lead early in the first period, slipping the puck past the Davis goalie. With 6:53 left in the game, Viking Vik-ing skater Lester Lemmon ended the scoring deadlock sinking the first of three, third period VHS goals. Twenty-seven seconds later, Viewmont would up their advan- tage to three as Viking Evan Riddle beat the Davis defenders and scored with 6:36 left Davis was anything but out of this one, however. Dart skater Ryan Barton put Davis on the board with 4:45 on the clock, weaving his way through the Viking defense in a one-man effort to put the Darts on the board and rob Viewmont of its hopes for a shutout. Unfortunately for the Darts, the Davis comeback would be shortlived. short-lived. Viewmont's Craig Chisholm again extended the Viking lead to three, upping the score to 4-1. With only moments left on the clock. Barton would score the game's final goal. Again Barton threaded his way through the Viewmont defense and slipped the puck just out of Oscarson's reach for Davis' second goal. Viewmont returns to competition this week facing double duty. On Wednesday, the Vikes skate against Cottonwood at the Bountiful Ice Arena. Face-off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. On Saturday, Viewmont travels to the Cottonwood Ice Arena taking on a talented Highland team at 12:30 p.m. Davis will not return to the ice until Feb. 16. The Darts face Alta at the Bountiful Ice Arena with an 1 1 :30 a.m starting time. In other hockey action. The Bountiful Braves face Murray on Cottonwood Ice at 7:15 p.m. Schedules are subject to change.
