Show County skaters return to ice Davis, Bountiful fall to foes in year's first hockey duels By G.BRETT HART Sports Editor OLYMPUS 4 BOUNTIFUL 1 BOUNTIFUL The Bountiful Braves' hockey team returned from the holiday break to battle the Olympus Titans Wednesday night a match which left the Braves wishing they'd stayed out of action for at least a little longer. intimidated some of the younger Davis players. Murray also boasts a perfect 8-0 record followed by East, 7-2, Davis 5-4 and Viewmont 5-3. The high school hockey season is slated to continue into March, culminating in the tournament Prep Hockey The Titans pounded Bountiful 4-1 in front of the Braves' home crowd at the Bountiful Ice Arena. Olympus jumped to a 2-0, first period lead and never looked back. The Braves did start the second period determined to get back into the game and physically pounded Olympus throughout the fust part of the period. With 11:35 remaining in the second se-cond stanza, Bountiful' s Brandon Wallin broke free with the puck, beat the Titan goalie and earned the Braves their only point for the night. Unfortunately for the Braves, the Bountiful surge would not be long-lived. long-lived. The Titans retaliated later in the second, slapping goal number three past Bountiful goalie Ryan Nataya. Olympus returned to score again with 1 : 07 left in the second to round out the contest's scoring. Bountiful coach Mike Holmes said the Braves struggled with execution ex-ecution of plays that they had practiced prac-ticed before the break. "The kids tend to forget or become lackadaisical about things over the break that we've drilled over and over. "We made a lot of execution mistakes, but it really comes back to the same old thing. We've got a lot of new kids. You lose them by the time they start coming on," Holmes said. The Braves stand at 0-7 in league play with Wednesday's loss. MURRAY 5 DAVIS 1 SALT LAKE CITY Davis High's hockey team found itself in foreign territory against one of the league's top competitors, the Murray Spartans, and without three of the Darts' premier players. The undefeated Spartans punished punish-ed Davis with its bruising play 5-1 Thursday night at the Cottonwood ice Arena. Davis goalie Matt Jamieson logged an impressive 50 saves on 55 shots by the swarming Murray offense, while Davis managed a meager 8 shots on goal against the Spartans. Murray, up 4-0 with two minutes left in the contest, looked to shut out the improving Davis team, but Dart Paul Anderson and company had other ideas. Anderson took assists from Travis Shepard and Doug Wright to beat the Murray goalie and log Davis only point in the final minutes of play. Three of Davis' toughest competitors com-petitors were absent from Thursday's Thurs-day's contest. Casey Fumess and Ryan Larkin remain suspended after a post-game brawl with Taylorsville; however, Fumess will return this Wednesday night as Davis takes on rival Viewmont at the Bountiful Ice Arena.
