Second. -the Braves now can look forward to the future. Only two grapplers on Bountiful 's varsity squad are 0ot sophomores. With that kind of experience experi-ence undeP their belts, the Braves should be tough to beat in the text couple of years to come. But for fiow, Bountiful must concentrate on the Region 6 rrtjeet Wednesday on the Braves home turf. For Boufttiful, Scott Olson and Marshall Jones will be the BraVes' best hopes for titles. By G.BRETT HART Sports Editor CLEARFIELD 45 VIEWMONT 13 BOUNTIFUL Going into Thursday night's, final Region 1 dual meet, the Viewmont Viking wrestling squad had a chance to tie with Clearfield and Layton for the region dual meet championship. . But the Falcons quickly demonstrated that their 5-0 record was due to anything but luck, defeating the Vikes 45-13. Viewmont finishes dual meet competition competi-tion in third behind Layton and Clearfield. For Viewmont coach Bart Thompson, however, neither the loss to Clearfield nor the third place, dual meet finish looms as a harbinger of doom for next week's Region 1 tournament (which, incidentally, Viewmont will host Jan. 31). "The match was definitely closer than the score indicates Thompson said. "We wrestled some close matches. We went after them and got caught We could have wrestled more conservatively and not lost by as many points, but that's not our style. We went after them and didn't quit "We ended up third last year and took the region championship," explained Thompson. Fans also got a glimpse of two of the state's top grapplers, not to mention a glimpse of what very well might be a region title matchup. The evening's keynote match pitted the state's first and second ranked rank-ed 1 89-pounders in a pre-region bout This time, Viewmont's Lee Mahlstede, ranked second, se-cond, lost to number one-ranked Falcon wrestler John Wojchiechowski 16-8. DAVIS 44 WEBER 27 PLEASANT VIEW The Darts punished the struggling Weber Warriors in both teams' final dual meet 44-27, Davis Coach Alan Porter said Thursday night's win over the Warriors was important because he feels the Darts are beginning to peak going into the region tournament "I fell like we're wrestling better now than we have all season, but a lot of our wrestlers will be ranked rank-ed 4th, 5th and 6th going into the tournament which means they'll wrestle the top seeds. "Kohn Cullimore and Jason Robinson should do well for us. I expect Kohn to be ranked second or third; Jason will be ranked first ' Both Cullimore and Robinson demonstrated why they are the Darts' best hopes of region and state medals. Robinson was punishing Weber's Daniel Trujillo 15-0 in the second before being awarded the match by technical fall. Cullimore also won by technical fall over Nathan Hyer leading the Weber wrestler 18-1 when the match was stopped. WOODS CROSS 32 WEST 23 SALT LAKE CITY Wildcat wrestling coach Glen Orme called his team's 32-23 win over the West High Panthers one of the most important victories of the season, "I was really proud of the way our team wrestled against West We did not give up a single loss by pin. "I was impressed and pleased with our team's performance." per-formance." The win couldn't have come at a better time for the young Wildcat team which is also preparing for the Region 6 tournament scheduled for Jan. 30 at Bountiful. Boun-tiful.
