Show Prep State Golf Results By TOM HARALDSEN Prep golf seasons ended Wednesday as state championships were I held in 3A and 4A divisions in KaysvUle and Brigham City. All four I schools were represented in this year's championships, with the highest local finish being an eighth-place showing in 3A by the I Woods Cross Wildcats I In Brigham City, the hometown Box Elder Bees, playing their I regular course at Eagle Mountain, shot a team score of 294 for an I easy 16-stroke victory over runnerup Judge Memorial. I Box Elder's Jason Wight carded an eight-under 64 to lead the Bees I to the title. Woods Cross was eighth at 326 and Bountiful tied for I 11th at 337. Individually, Woods Cross sophomore Shawn Jepsen, playing in I the same group as Wight, shot a 77 to lead the Wildcats. Teammates I Scott Strong and Shane Rawlins checked in with an 81 and 82 I respectively. Earlier in the week, the Wildcats lost a one-stroke deci- I sion to Murray in a playoff for the Region Six Championship. I Ironically, Murray finished one shot ahead of the Wildcats at state, I while Woods Cross edged the Spartans by one stroke at the Region I Six finals. Bountiful's 337 included low scores of 81 by junior Scott Ar- chibald and 82 by junior Brandon Earl. I At Davis Park in Kaysville, Timpyiew and Hillcrest went to two I sudden-death playoff holes before the T-Birds captured their eighth I state title in the last 10 years. Both teams shot 302' s. I Viewmont was 10th at 321, paced by Jason Porter's two-over 74. Other Viewmont scores included 80 from Jeremy Duffin, 83 from I Mike Haws, 84 from Shane Cullimore and 85 from Matt IsbelL I Davis did not qualify as a team for the state tournament, but Byron I Utley played as an individual for the Darts and shot 77, good for a tie for 17th place. Timp view's Will Huish was medalist with a 68. I |
