Show v . DATC teacher honored Kevin L. Cummings, PC applications instructor at the Davis Applied Technology Center, recently received the Spotlight Award from the Utah Business Education Association. a Cummings has been teaching in one situation or another for 10 years. His teaching experience began with computer com-puter instruction for children for a private computer firm. His natural ability to make computer instruction easy and fun soon manifest itself, and he quickly expanded into adult computer classes. TTiis led to independent indepen-dent computer consultant work for various Salt Lake area firms. To expand himself professionally and to earn his way through college, Cummings also accepted a I part-time position with an air freight company working with computers. This work experience and numerous computer technology courses enabled Girniriings to receive a Voca- I tional Data Processing teaching certificate in addition to his B.S. in elementary education with a science minor from the I University of Utah. Cummings has written two software tutorials: Tutor 1-2-3 I and Tutor DOS. He won second place in the Public Brand . Software Shareware development contest with his pro-I pro-I grams. I I In addition, he writes and edits a monthly departmental I newsletter and conducts an annual survey of local busi- I nesses to ensure that the DATC curriculum adequately I prepares students for the jobs they seek. I j He writes a weekly computer column for the Davis Court- I i " ry Clipper and Kaysville Today as well as a humorous ' - I I column, ' 4 Short Cuirunings. " , I I Cummings was the recipient of a Utah Proud Award at I I the past Utah Vocational Conference. He received the Cita- I I tion Award given by the International Association of People 1 in Employment Services for outstanding voluntary contribu- . I tions in 1990. |
