Davis County Accountant Steve Rawlins said approval is needed to set the tax rate, not the budget, which was set Dec. 15, 1989. "The tax increases we talked about in December are still the same," he said. "We just need to set the tax rate, and the law requires a public hearing. ' ' Rawlins pointed out that all areas of the budget will have a lower tax rate than last year except the gen- eral fund, which will show an increase in-crease to cover the cost of the new jail in Farmington. 'The only increase comes from the jail," he said "Everything else is lower. The commissioners have really held down expenditures in many areas. ' ' The 1990 tax rate for the general fund is slated at .001970. The 1989 tax rate was .001803, which shows an increase in revenue of $895,000. The increase will translate to an average hike in property taxes of $9.40 throughout the county. "This is not an increase over what we set before Rawlins said. 'We simply need to set the tax rates to correspond with the amounts set We already budgeted the money, now we need to set the rate to bring in the revenue." |
