Show Great Salt Lake declines slightly The Great Salt Lake declined 0.1 foot from the level on May 1, and is at 4,204.6 feet above sea level, according ac-cording to a May 15, measurement by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The USGS operates the official gauge at the Saltair Beach Boat Harbor and at Saline in cooperation with the Utah Division of Water Rights. "The lake's peak for this spring is 4,204.7 feet which occurred in March and April,' said Darrell Carlson, hydrologist for the USGS Water Resources Division in Salt Lake City. "The lake is 7.25 feet lower than the historic peak, 4,211.85 feet in 1987, and is 2.0 feet lower than at this time last year (4,206.6 feet)," notes Carlson. The level of the north arm of the Great Salt Lake is 4,203.3 feet above sea level and 0.1 feet below the level on April 1. This gauge is located 3.4 miles northwest of Saline, at the Little Valley boat harbor, har-bor, and 30 miles west of Ogden. |
