Show Wildcats kick off new year By DAVE MOODY In today's article, no exclamation marks will be used. This is due to the severe exclamation mark shortage shor-tage that has been plaguing people for weeks. Of course you've heard it at all the popular punctuation dealers -- "I'm sorry sir, but we're just fresh out of exclamations." And you know that the first people they thought of when it was time to make the cutbacks were the student writers. I guess I didn't need them anyway. The next thing you know they're going to take away all apostrophes for contraction use. Oh well, you win some and you lose some. Today, the National Honor Society Socie-ty is having a shindig. This will include in-clude volleyball, badminton, prob ably twister, and the ever elusive game called "bluff." The evening will be topped off with banana splits. This whole thing is sort of like an artificial summer, and by doing do-ing it, the honor society hopes to invite in-vite summer to come a little early. The wrestlers will be busy in the next week as they host Murray on the 11th and attend a meet at Granite on the 17th. The basketball "department" will be busy as well. On Jan. 12, the boys' team plays at West while the girls' team from West comes here to play. Jan. 16 is the same except the team that Woods Cross plays is Tooele. That means the girls stay and play and the boys go to the opposing op-posing school for their game. It's Civil Rights day on the 15th. That means school will not be in session. Junior prom will soon be upon us. It's Jan. 19 so it is still not too late to ask that special someone. Watch this column next week for the time and place. The results of the men's badminton badmin-ton tourney are in. The fabulous Woods Cross players came out on top. It was a hard struggle, but in the end, the entire team agreed that it was worth it. A few hours of grueling, sweaty badminton in a gym for one of the most prestigious badminton titles in all of Utah is a trade most people would be happy to make. Congratulations on a fine victory, badminton team! (If you are wondering about the exclamation mark, let's just say I "borrowed" it from our English department, when I saw a few extra lying around. I hope no one notices its absence.) Until next time, have a quality week. |
