Although most agreed with the U.S. invasion of Panama, their responses varied regarding the suggestion sug-gestion for plea bargaining. "I think we did the right thing,' said Colleen Hales. "I don't think we should plea bargain with anybody. We know what he did to his people, and he should be accountable ac-countable for his actions. Why should he be any different." David Smith did not agree with the U.S. invasion. "I think it was wrong because the U.S. has no right to interfere with the government of another country. We're using the 'we're better than you' attitude to force our opinions on others," he said. Smith added that he agreed with allowing Noriega to plea bargain. "It's obvious that the CIA was paying him off. I think it would be interesting to see who he would name." "I feel the U.S. did the right thing in invading Panama," said Charles Hughes. "If I was in another an-other country that couldn't get out from under the government's oppression op-pression I'd want help. I think we should allow a plea bargain to help bring others to justice," he said. Susan Christensen did not agree. "I don't think we should plea bargain. Hes a criminal. He committed com-mitted a crime. We had to do what we did. There may have been a better way, but we'll never know. Bush had to stop being such a wimp and do something." 'I don't think we should plea bargain at all," said Lilly Corkie-Brickey. Corkie-Brickey. I feel the U.S. did the right thing. If someone comes up to you and slaps you in the face you try talking to them about it. If they slap you again you do something else. I think they should go all the way in prosecuting him," she said. They had to get him somehow," she said. Regarding plea bargaining, bargain-ing, Goble said, "I think we should allow him to plea bargain. No one ever gets the maximum sentence anyway. We might as well get the information from him," she said. |
