Holbrook students r jump and raise money By JENNIFER PETERSON Staff Writer More than 500 Hannah Holbrook Elementary School students jumped, hopped and skipped around the playground for more than an hour, Monday, as they raised hundreds hun-dreds of dollars for the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Edu-cation, Recreation and Dance. Jump Rope for Heart is a program pro-gram designed to teach participants about the benefits of regular exercise exer-cise and a healthy lifestyle, while promoting teamwork and building school spirit The event emphasizes the importance impor-tance of a healthy lifestyle, including in-cluding proper nutrition, exercise, ii- . not smoking and controlling high blood pressure. The students, ranging in age from 5 to 12 years, were split into teams of six at this first annual event sponsored by Food -4-Less and Albertsons who donated oranges and cookies for the jumpers. "The event was fun and exciting," ex-citing," said JRFH coordinator, Kelly Foster. "It's the first year we've done this and we've had a pretty good turnout" The students were given the opportunity op-portunity to take part in the activity, and more than 500 of them went to work drumming up donations. After their one-hour jumping, skipping and hopping session, the kids returned re-turned to their donors to collect funds. |
