Show 93-year-old Logan woman killed in mishap By MARK EDDINGTON Staff Writer FARMINGTON A 93-year-old Logan woman was killed Friday afternoon when the driver of the car she was a passenger in fell asleep at the wheel and collided with a semitrailer on Interstate 15. Harriet Dalton suffered chest trauma and head injuries. She was taken by Life Flight helicopter to LDS Hospital, where she was pronounced pro-nounced dead at 7 p.m. Dalton 's son-in-law, Edward Vandivere, 68, Bountiful was driving the 1988 Pontiac Grand Prix. Reading from the accident report, a Utah Highway Patrol spokesper son reported Vandivere was travelling travell-ing southbound on the interstate and had "apparently fallen asleep at the wheel" about 1:20 p.m. when the accident occurred. Vandivere's car reportedly drifted over and rearended a semitrailer, owned and operated by R.T. Systems out of Salt Lake City. The driver of the truck, who was not injured, said he didn't hear or feel the impact. Vandivere's car was dragged about a quarter mile before the driver noticed what had happened happen-ed and stopped the truck. Vandivere was taken to Lakeview Hospital. Lakeview spokesperson Susan Muldoon said he was treated for multiple injuries and released. |
