SDCH to break ground for expansion South Davis Community Hospital will break ground at the end of this month for construction of a 40,000-square-foot, three-story addition to the existing hospital in east Bountiful. The existing ex-isting structure will be remodeled and upgraded as part of the project. Incorporated in 1976 as a specialized nonprofit non-profit community hospital with Utah civic leader Harold L. Pope serving as board chairman, South Davis Community Hospital has grown to its present pre-sent position as a 75 bed sub-acute and specialty long-term care facility for rehabilitation and maintenance of chronically ill. The hospital has developed a reputation for professional pediatric and geriatric care. It provides pro-vides respiratory therapy for ventilator-dependent ventilator-dependent children and adults, as well as speech and physical therapy and recreational and occupational oc-cupational therapy. Emphasis is also given to special needs of the families of patients. The hospital provides transitional care at a level between high-cost traditional acute care hospitals centers and rest home facilities. By offering a 40 percent to 60 percent savings over acute units, SDCH has saved the Utah Medicaid system millions of dollars. To meet pressure from rising costs, tight Medicaid budgets and increased facilities utiliza tion, the expanded medical center will continue to play a significant cost containment role in the Utah health services delivery system. Under the current direction of Board Chairman Newell Parkin and Hospital Administrator Gorden Bennett, South Davis Community Hospital will double in bed capacity when construction con-struction is completed in the spring of 1993. At 90 percent of patient capacity, the hospital will employ approximately 300 Utah health care workers and professionals. The services offered by the hospital to the community and state will also be expanded to include Home Health Care and Hospice Care. |
