Show Junior Olympic racquetboll set for SLC SALT LAKE CITY Over 600 youngsters across the country are expected to defend national titles or compete for new ones at the 1992 Ektelon AARA U.S. Junior Olympic RacquetbaJl Championships Champion-ships at the Sports Mall, June 27 through July 1. Players between the ages of 5 and 1 8 will compete for national titles in 24 singles and doubles divisions. Team scoring will also decide a state winner of the event, with each player earning team points for advancing ad-vancing through the draw. Established Estab-lished in 1974, this junior national event is in its 18th year and is expected ex-pected to attract record numbers of youngsters looking for an exciting kickoff to summer vacation. The Junior Olympic event is also the second annual competitive qualifier for the 1992-93 Junior Team USA. Winners of the Boys and Girls 18 and under divisions will join current U.S. National High School champions James Mulcock and Elkova Icenogle in earning yearlong appointments to the junior national team. In addition, players selected to attend this year's Junior Team trials will be named. The team qualifier and elite training camp for juniors will be held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs in late July. The qualifying finals (Boys and Girls 18- singles) of the 1992 Ektelon AARA U.S. Junior Olympic Olym-pic Racquetball Championships will be broadcast nationwide by Prime Network as part of a six-event six-event series scheduled this year. This is the third event to be televised televis-ed this year, following the Ektelon AARA U.S. National High School Championships and the Ektelon AARA U.S. National Singles Championships. |
