Intially, Alice thought the call telling her she had won the car from Murdock Chevrolet was a hoax. 'Hot 'diggity, that's our car'! we went to the car dealership and he saw that beautiful red car in the delivery lot. Then he finally smiled and yelled: 'hot diggity, that's our car'!" Logie worked 22 years for the Davis School District, retiring in 1973. Now at age 80, he is director of the district's migrant program, enrolling Mexican children into local schools. Both have been active in "doing things for others." Logie has been active with the migrant workers throughout Davis County and Alice has been close to the Indians helping to improve their lives. Both are active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints. The couple,served an LDS mission to the Dominican Republic. A second married for both, they have 13 children, 63 grandchildren grand-children and 11 great-grandchildren. By GARY R. BLODGETT FRUIT HEIGHTS Alice Saldivar told the telephone caller that "it wasn't nice to call people and tell them that they had won a new car in a contest they had never entered. ""I had completely forgotten that Logie had entered such a contest more than a year ago so I accused the caller of being a vicious person without feelings of others," said Mrs. Saldivar. "I'm glad that I was able to meet the caller at a later date and apologize." She explained that being a contest winner, especially for somthing as nice as a new car, is hard to believe. "I was still skeptical about everything until the papers were signed and the car was sitting in our driveway," she said. The car is a beautiful new Chevrolet Corsica, deep red in color, and fully equipped. The contest was the nationwide Great American Key Hunt which, according to a contest representative, was entered by millions. The Saldivars were regional winners and obtained their new car through Kent Murdock Chevrolet in Woods Cross. "The caller told me that it was no prank, that we had actually won the contest and that we would be receiving a letter of confirmation within the next few days," Mrs. Saldivar said. ' "The letter gave us instructions on what to do to complete the paper work necessary to have the car delivered. Even after having the auto dealership inform us that we were winners, we still called contest officials to make certain." Mr. Saldivar said they were not regular contest players; in fact, contest applications usually ended up in the garbage can. "But this time I had a strange feeling and decided to fill in the blanks and drop it in the mail." " ' He said that he had forgotten about the contest and that he and his wife had not mentioned it for more than a year. "I began to get excited when I first learned that we were winners, but Logie didn't show any emotion until the day that |
