The choirs recently received superior ratings at a California competition. BHS choir performs at Symphony Hall Bountiful High's choral department, depart-ment, the largest high school choir in the state, performed at Symphony Sym-phony Hall on May 16. Bountiful High has approximately 475 students stu-dents in the music department, under the direction of Sheri Cole. After a very successful competi-tion competi-tion in California, receiving straight superiors, the choirs performed per-formed to a capacity audience. The Bountiful High band also performed, under the direction of Dave Hunt. They also received superior su-perior ratings and first runner-up in competition with bands from as far away as Florida. Harold Bust, a Sterling Scholar in music, played piano Concerto No. 3 with his teacher, Lenora Neal. MaryAnn Allgood played a violin-cello solo. Janine Merrill, Tiffany Allen and Andrea Worthington played a concerto con-certo for flute and harp. They received re-ceived a superior plus in state competition. com-petition. Vocal solos were performed by Brent Smith, Mike Hargraves and Jill Jensen. Phenix, a popular all-male group, sang "Sweet Georgia Brown," among other numbers. Xela, a group composed of all girls, sang the much requested "Big Spender." The Chamber Choir sang and danced to 42nd Street medley. All of the choir numbers were also choreographed by Sheri Cole. The music department has had a very successful and exciting year. Students are now trying out for next year's show choirs. Everyone wants to work hard to continue the tradition of excellence. |
