If so, your skills are needed for the Davis and Salt Lake Counties needy children. The Spinning Wheel needlework shop in the Five Points Mall is sponsoring for the first time a "Caps for Kids" donation project in association with the Soroptomist International of Bountiful Professional and Business Women's Association. This project has grown to a non-profit organization to provide warm handmade hats for children who would otherwise go cold in the winter. It began several years ago in California-at the Yarn Country store and now is being sponsored by over 100 yarn shops nationwide. Last year alone over 23,000 hats were donated. don-ated. Janeel Johnson, proprietor of The Spinning Wheel for the past 18 years, hopes to get 1 ,000 hats to be distributed exclusively to the needy in Davis and Salt Lake Counties. This worthy project was brought to Ms. Johnson's attention by a customer of hers who suggested she contact the California store for details, according to Ms. Johnson. I "The response has been wonderful already." said Ms. John- j son. She has strung up a clothesline across her store which sports a variety of the donated hats. "We're hoping to extend the clothesline out the store front and into the Mall," said Ms. Johnson. Any pattern of cap can be used, but The Spinning Wheel has made two sample patterns available which can be picked up at the store. j "We will donate scrap yarns if materials can't be located," said Ms. Johnson. "Knit, crochet or even a knitting machine can be used for the hats and every hat will be a great help. Just drop them off at Ths Spinning W heel and we'll put them up on the clothesline," said 1 Ms. Johnson. |
