The Utah Open Chess Tournament Tour-nament ended with the defending state champion Abbas Riazi retaining his title. He is a student at the University and is rated 2100. Second place went to Farell Clark, a class A player. Third place went to another University player, Lance Williams. He also took first in class A competition, winning a trophy. The state junior champion, Randy Zumbrunnen, also retained his title by taking fifth place in the tour- nament.
