Show Debaters win tournaments The University debate squad has started its 1972-73 season with impressive showings at tournaments tour-naments in Wyoming, Colorado, and Montana. At the recentiy-completed recentiy-completed Swing Tournament co-sponsored co-sponsored by the University of Wyoming and the University of Northern Colorado, two Utah teams were named to the first and second place honors in overall debate achievement. Both teams compiled records of 13 wins and only 1 loss apiece in the fourteen rounds of preliminary debate competition. Named to first place was the team of Kent Anderson and Steve Christensen, while Ellis Anderson and Rick Krambule took second place honors. Two other teams shared third-place third-place honors at the Eastern Montana College Forensics Tournament last weekend. They were-.Briant Matheson and Lory Smith, Curtis Raymond and Gary Thorup. Both teams lost close decisions to separate teams from the University of North Dakota in the semi-final round. Participation at the three tournaments has brought the U debate teams into competition with over forty schools ranging from coast to coast. Dr. Jack Rhodes, Director of Forensics, stresses that it is still possible for students to enter the forensics program, which offers participation in oratory, oral interpretation, in-terpretation, extemporaneous speaking, and expository . speaking, as well as in debate.
