Show Ufes topple Pokes in La rant tu-,na which the Utah defense nfi,.,i BY RICK SORENSEN Saturday proved to be just an odd day from every angle at Memorial Stadium in Laramie, Wyoming, as the Utah Redskins rose from that cold pit of near defeat to nip Wyoming's Cowboys with a fourth quarter touchdown via a blocked Poke punt. Prognosticators throughout the land picked the Utes to drop Wyoming for the first time in 15 years on the plains of Laramie so we can't say that the final score of 20-16 with Utah on top surprised us. However, it can be said that the rather unorthodox fashion in which Bill Meek's boys accomplished accom-plished their assignment left a few -I something which the Utah defense consistently reserved for "Scooter Longmire and company." Wyoming Wyom-ing moved literally at will on the ground throughout the first half until reaching tine Utah twenty-yard twenty-yard line. Then a seemingly concerned con-cerned defensive conglomerate effectively put the Pokes' mean-derings mean-derings to a sudden stop. And so went the war until intermission. Second-half Action The second half brought with it a majority of the action as Wyoming kicker, Bob Jacobs, tired Jerry Depyster's NCAA record of thirty six career field goals which lifted Wyoming to a 16-13 lead. Previous to Jacobs' three pointer Longmire had passed for two touchdowns, one to Hunter for 15 yards and the other to Belczyk for 28 yards within one minute and 16 seconds raised eyebrows and thump.ng hearts. Attendance low For the first time this season Wyoming's renovated stadium amassed fewer than capacity attendance at-tendance which is rather odd since Wyoming football is the deity of that desolate state: But those who did show up were in good spirits as usual. Bob Welti . must have overlooked over-looked the southeastern corner of our neighboring state for the sun was shining throughout the entire game with a negligable wind factor recorded until late in the fourth quarter. However, the true turnabout was featured on the turf and not with existing conditions condi-tions or surroundings.
