Ute Runners Utah team captain Scott Peterson Peter-son will be one of Coach Carl-ston's Carl-ston's top entries in the meet. The senior sprinter holds the school record of 46.6 seconds in the 440. Doug Wells, former Utah record holder in the shot put, will be back after serving three years in the service. Wells specializes in the unlikely combination of shot put and sprint events. Among Utah's top distance runners run-ners are Frank Wojtech, Daryl Moss , Brett Hansen, and John Crea. I 5 R;, BY GEOFF TOWNS Sports Editor The first Western Athletic Conference Con-ference (WAC) Track and Field Championships will be hosted by Utah Friday and Saturday in the Salt Palace. All eight WAC schools, Utah Texas El Paso, Brigham Young, New Mexico, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado State and Wyoming, Wyo-ming, will enter teams. Also in the meet will be invited high school athletes and other top performers (both men and women). Utah track coach Pete Carlston expects BYU and UTEP to battle for first place, with a strong New Mexico team close behind. Competition the Best Coach Carlston said there should be many quality performances perfor-mances in the meet. Kerry Pearce of UTEP holds the world record in the two mile run of 8:27.2 and BYU's Ralph Mann is the American Ameri-can and National Collegiate record holder in the 440-yard intermed- |
