Show Election schedule conflicts For the past two years, elections for Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU) Executive Council have been planned to occur during other campus activities. Two years ago, elections coincided with U-Days. Last year, elections elec-tions were scheduled to have occured during Challenge Week, but were moved to another date in order to avoid conflict. According to the ASUU Constitution, elections must be held prior to the third Friday of spring quarter. Because of this, elections are fairly well tied in to a specific date. It is difficult to hold elections earlier because it would be necessary neces-sary to straddle quarters in order to do so. Events such as U-Days and Challenge Week, however, can be held at other times. It would seem that experience from past years would have taught the people responsibility for scheduling activities that these conflicts keep recurring. Oddly enough, however, Challenge Chal-lenge Week has been scheduled for the second week of spring quarter this year. That would put it right in the middle of primary elections. |
