"Ninety percent of high school students don't have any idea what their rights are when they sign up, fill out the form and go for their physical, he said. "We're unlike other draft counseling services in that we want to be available to all people of draft age-not just those in college. Ultimately, if funds permit, the center hopes to send letters to all high school seniors in Utah explaining how they can get draft information and counseling. The center is staffed by volunteers. Currently, John Wade of the Campus Christian Center; Michael Cunningham of the Unitarian Church; Richard King, a I University sociology graduate; Dr. William Viavant, professor of electrical engineering; and Dr. Harold Vogle, Instructor in Surgery are working at the other end of phone lines. Dr. McGean said staffers keep up with national draft counseling bulletins and directives from the national selective service office |
