Show Judo Club opens season In the 1920's several Oriental sports which were too dangerous for sporting competition, were combined and refined into the art and sport of judo. Since that time, judo has been primarily represented by Kodakan Judo The next official competition for club members will be Nov. 30 in Salt Lake City. The match is sponsored by the local YMCA and all intermountain judo clubs will be invited to participate in the event. Association of Japan. The University is one of the few campuses to have a branch of Kodakan judo as one of its student organizations. The Utah Judo Club is an officially sanctioned Kodakan Judo Academy, and is currently seeking Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU) approval as a permanent University student group. The club has been on campus three years. Last year the team fought in tournaments in Oregon, Idaho, Denver, Ogden and Salt Lake City. During these events the club gathered in many awards including two grand championships, one second place and several third place titles. Anyone interested in learning judo for self-defense or for competition is invited to attend the club meetings and become a member. The organization welcomes all students in an effort to make maximum use of their two excellent blackbelt judo instructors. The club meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7:45 p.m. in the wrestling room across the street from the East Institute.
