Show Raiders Sign Charlie Smith Charlie Smith, a standout halfback half-back for the University of Utah football team for the past two years, signed a contract with the Oakland Raiders Tuesday. Smith, a 6-foot, 210 pounder, was the Raider's fourth round draft choice. Last year Smith led the Redskins in rushing with 588 yards and in scoring with 62 points. Charlie showed his open-field running ability abil-ity by placing among national leaders lead-ers in kickoff returns last year. He will probably be tried as a running back.
