Distance Men Victorious In Early Meets The University Cross Country team is off to a running1 start this season; posting two' victories in as many meets. Coach Pete Carlson has come up with some young exciting ex-citing talent for this year's squad, and it appears that another successful suc-cessful years is in store for the Ute distance men. Sophomore Scott Bringhurst placed first and Freshman Robert Wood finished second while leading lead-ing the Redskins to a 25-35 victory in last week's meet with the traditionally tradi-tionally strong Idaho State University Uni-versity at Pocatello. It was an especially impressive win as both Bringhurst and Wood finished ahead of Idaho's three time Big Sky Champion, Roger Maxfield. Other top finishers for Utah were Sal Mendoza, Don Zaph, Peter Meldrum, and Frank Wojtech. Saturday in a triangular meet with Utah State University and Weber State College in Ogden, the Redskins got more great efforts from Bringhurst, Wood, Zaph, and Meldrum who finished second, third, fourth, and fifth respectively; as the Utes came out on top again with only 21 points. USU placed second with 52 and Weber State finished with 60. The remainder of the Cross Country schedule is as follows: October 21 U. of Arizona at Tucson, Tu-cson, Arizona. October 28 Utah State U. at Logan, Utah. November 11 Conference Meet at Laramie, Wyoming. November 27 National Championships Champion-ships at Laramie, Wyoming.
