Show TIGERS EDGE DELTA FOR FIRST BASKETBALL WIN IN THREE SEASONS The Tigers wound up the 1956 casaba season in a "blaze of glory," putting on a last-minute thriller that had the fans on their feet and screaming as i they fought for the victory and I posted their first win in three years of league play. They were playing Delta, and the two teams were fighting for the cellar cel-lar spot. With one minute to go Wads-worlh Wads-worlh went in for a basket and tied the ballgame at 42-42. Then in that final minute Milford sank three baskets and Delta tallied one basket and three foul shots a total of 11 points in 60 seconds. That's professional profes-sional calibre basketball, "and had either the Tigers or the Rabbits exhibited that type of ball throughout the season the two squads would have been lighting' for the championship instead of the cellar. That final minute saw Wads-worth Wads-worth scoring to put the Tigers in front 44-42. Bowers tied it up for the visitors, and Fred Wright dunked one for the local lo-cal squad. Neal Smyth was charged with a foul at the center cen-ter line and Bowers made one for a 46-45 count. Wright took the rebound and passed out to Boyd White. All five Tigers had a hand in putting the ball under the Milford basket and Vee passed out to Freddie, who dunked it in. Delta brought it back toward the center and as the final buzzer buz-zer sounded someone fouled Bowers. After a wild Milford fan demonstration, the floor was cleared so Bowers could make his free throws. He made both of them, but the Rabbits still trailed by one point. The last minute was the ball-game. ball-game. In the first quarter Milford Mil-ford went out to a 15-6 lead, and Delta r.ut it to 20-18 at halftime. It was tied at 32-32 at the end of the third stanza. There were flashes of real basketball on the part of both squads throughout the game, but for the most part it was rather ragged. And that final minute made up for all the thrills hometown fans have missed this year. In the "B" game the Tigers showed promise of what they can do next year. All year the B squad has shown exceptional .ability, and with the first-string five off the floor the B squad Continued on Back Paee HERE'S MORE ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL Continued from Page One I can easily defeat the A seserve ' squad. Coach Pettey has kept the youngsters playing as a unit when he might have used some to advantage occasionally on the main string, because they improve faster in actual comoat as a B squad, playing a regulation regula-tion game each week, than if they had had a few minutes or a few seconds play each week on the first string. By holding them together as a B unit, Coach Pettey was building a better squad for '57.
