Show INDIAN VISITORS ENTERTAINED AT METHODIST CHURCH " An interesting and worthy project being carried on by the Milford Methodist Church was brought closer to the sponsors last week when 15 Navajo Indian In-dian boys and girls, 10 to 15 years old, were entertained at Sunday School and church services serv-ices here. Following the services serv-ices the children enjoyed a pot luck dinner furnished by Sunday Sun-day School students and members mem-bers of the congregation. Sponsored by the Presbyterian Presbyter-ian Church, 126 Indian students from Tuba City, Ariz., are quartered quar-tered at a dormitory in Richfield Rich-field and attend surrounding public schools. The students are hand-picked and before being be-ing assigned to the Richfield dormitory must pass rigid medical, med-ical, health, and academic screening. Aim of the project is to raise the standard of living of the Indian children, teach them the "white man's" way of life, and ultimately do away with Indian reservations by integrating integrat-ing these native Americans among the white people. At the dormitory they clean their own rooms, do their own ironing, and perform other tasks about the area. In Milford the Indian children chil-dren sang songs in their native Navajo language, mixed well with the local children, and thoroughly enjoyed the feed served after the meeting. Mrs. Hinauri Tribole, who was in charge of the arrangements arrange-ments for welcoming and entertaining enter-taining the visitors, expressed appreciation to all who assisted her. |
