FRIDAY IS POPPY DAY FOR MILFORD LEGION AND VFW AUXILIARY LADIES All day Friday ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Aux-iliary will be selling crepe-paper crepe-paper poppies on Milford's Main Street. The poppies are made by veterans vet-erans of America's three latest wars, and they receive pay for making the little red flowers . while confmed to veterans' hos pitals over the nation. All money derived from sale of the poppies is used in wel- PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, The American Legion Auxiliary of Milford has in past years followed the annual an-nual tradition of selling Poppies for the benefit of disabled Veterans, Vet-erans, and Whereas, the proceeds from such sale go to benefit of such veterans, and WHEREAS, it is fitting that we aid and honor our Veterans who have given so much for our benefit in past wars, and WHEREAS, the season for the annual observance of Memorial Day is at hand, in which we pay honor and tribute to all our dead; -NOW THEREFORE, I, Ray L. Kizer, Mayor of the City of Milford, do hereby proclaim Friday, May 27th as "Poppy Day," and urge all citizens of this city to observe that day by wearing the poppy as a symbol o'f tribute and honor to Veterans. This work of making the poppies pop-pies is one of the most interesting inter-esting activities most of the vet-ersn vet-ersn have throughout the long, bleak year. Lying helpless in bed is a trying ordeal to a man who, but for a bullet fired by an enemy would be leading a nor-- nor-- -s- -mal and healthy life. The poppy industry helps the veterans to help themselves, and gives them hope and courage in the knowledge knowl-edge that they are helping others oth-ers as well. When the ladies approach you Friday, buy a poppy cheerfully, cheer-fully, and wear it proudly. |
