Show CIVICS CLASS TAKES FIELD TRIP Monday, April 14th, 40 civics students of Mr. Jesse Long journeyed jour-neyed to Beaver to attend the Fifth District Court session. Hon. Will L. Hoyt, district judge, presided. The students listened to regular reg-ular court proceedings for an hour and 10 minutes. For the remaining 50 minutes Judge Hoyt called on District Attorney ElUs J. Pickett to tell the students stu-dents his duty as district attorney. attor-ney. He stated that if all the people observed the law his job would be unnecessary. The judge then called on John O. Christiansen, Beaver County attorney He explained his duties as county attorney. Judge Hoyt then caDed on Harold Cline to explain the purpose pur-pose of district court and the types of cases held in the court. Sam Cline was also called upon to explain why court records are necessary, and the duties of a court recorder. The judge had prepared for each student a four-page mimeographed mimeo-graphed sheet exp'aining the court system of Utah. The students learned from this field trip that courts are not as dramatic as they are in movies, but are places where the business of law is conducted. On the way home they visited the Brooklawn Creamery in Beaver and the Gold Star Dairy in Minersville. The trip was enjoyed by all the students. |
