Having met the March 15th or 17th tax deadline as best he could, many an American tax payer is now waking up to the sad fact that he only gets about ' two-thirds of what he earns. Even though he may have doubled doub-led his income in the past dozen years ,he is finding that high taxes and inflation leave him worse off than he was. The National Tax Journal points up the issue in this way: Pet. Taken by Annual Income Taxes $ 0-999 23 1,000-1,999 26 2,000-2,999 30 3,000-3,999 31 4,000-4,999 33 5,000-7,499 35 7,500-9,999 39 And, ihe 1953 Federal Budget Bud-get of $85.4 billion is greater than all the incomes of all ihe people west of the Mississippi River, according to a recent estimate of the National Chamber of Commerce. The same day we received the above information, we read of the platform (campaign prom-isesVof prom-isesVof a candidate for the Democratic Dem-ocratic nomination for the U. S. House of Representatives: Federal Fed-eral Aid for schools, Direct Federal Fed-eral Loans to small businesses, Reduction of expenditures in Europe with Increase of expenditures expendi-tures for internal improvements (more federal aid), development of every source of water and power for the west (more federal aid), elimination of income tax on incomes less than $5000, etc. With Voting America waking up, finally, to the doubled and trebled costs of "federal aid," and other socialistic schemes, the Democrats will have awfully tough sledding if they don't forsake for-sake the Free-Handout program. The taxpayers' purse isn't like the brook that goes on and on forever; it's getting pretty flat right now. Red Cross Chairman O. C. Koch has a bunch of certificates to give out to Miiford residents who contributed a pint of'blood each when the U P Blood Donor Car was in Miiford some time ago. And it's a brighter picture than was first announced. One hundred and one pints of blood were started on their way to Korea when the car spent tone day here. That's not bad atall for a community this size. |
