Show DRY ICE USED TO IMPROVE MILFORD VALLEY WELL The latest innovation in improving im-proving irrigation wells packing pack-ing the well with gravel and ! "blowing"' it with dry ice was tried out last week in the Mil-ford Mil-ford Valley ,with excellent results. re-sults. The James Minor No. 1 well, drilled on the old Experi- i ment Farm four miles east of Miiford, increased in production from 700 to 1,000 gallons per minute with 90-foot drawdown, according to E. C. Barton of the B & B Drilling Co., Beaver i well drillers. One of three wells drilled for Mr. Minor, the 16-inch, 400-foot well produced only 700 gallons per minute, an unsatisfactory flow. The well was packed with 30 yards of gravel and 1,000 pounds of dry ice tossed into the hole, in six separate applica-sions. applica-sions. With each application of dry ice, the well resembled a geyser, blowing a huge stream I of water 60 feet into the air, and packing the gravel back into the smaller sands, which allowed the water to flow more freely into the well casing. Two other wells drilled for Mr. Miner, all 16-inch wells between be-tween 345 and 475 feet deep, are producing 5V2 and 6 second feet of water, respectively, and are said to be the biggest wells in the Miiford Valley. Several other wells are to be drilled in the valley this spring, Mr. Barton said, with his next contract being a 16-inch well 500 ft. deep, which will be drilled for George Mayer, local grain farmer. |
