Show i ' SHERM MYERS CITED FOR BRAVERY IN KOREA Lt. (jg) Sherman C. Myers, (MC), U S N R, brother of i Claude R. Myers of Milford, last week was honored at special spe-cial ceremonies at the U S .' Naval Hospital at Mare Island,, 1 CaMf. For his courageous per-i per-i formance of duty in rescuing a . stranded ship's crew in enemy-i enemy-i held waters off Korea, Lt. j Myers was awarded a Commen-( Commen-( dation Ribbon with Metal Pendant Pen-dant and Combat Distinguished Device. While serving as medical o-ficer o-ficer on a minesweeper ,Lt. Myers was assigned the job of rendering medical aid to injured in-jured crew members of the Thailand frigate Prasae, which was aground on the enemy-hell eastern shore of Korea, Jan. 7, 1951. "Alhough the .danger was great," the commendation read, "Lt. Myers persisted in his ef forts until all of the injured ' men had been removed from the , ship to the beach, given first j ; aid and evacuated by helicopter to a cruiser standing of shore." , I Lt. Myers, a native of Crooks ton, Minn., enlisted in the navy in 1937 and served thru World War II He was stationed at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese Jap-anese attack, and was on active duty for the duration of the war. |
