Show illl!!ill!Hli!lijiI!!lil!iiIIIII!!!!illll!lii!i; Sat 0 cAeaict Sv SFCOND-GUESSER !!li:!illli!!!!!!i!!!!!!l!l!i!IUl!!!!!!i!!ji!: Wednesday an Associated Press dispatch from Washington quotes Harry Truman as being willing to "sacrifice" himself and live in the White House for another four years. j Oh, Brother ! ! ! I ' I i We were told this week that J Milford's "Senator" Pullem is being urged to announce his i candidacy for president of the j U. S. on a "Full 32-oz. Quart, No More Fifths" ticket. That j probably would make more sense than the Spend-American- j Doliars-in-Europe philosophy. Along with the political announcements, an-nouncements, maybe a word to the guys who "sacrifice" so the politicians can keep on politicking, poli-ticking, would be in order. Wc are advised that Utah taxpayers with incomes of less than $5,000 who use the federal short form I for federal taxes, are eligible j to use the new state short form, but should look twice before ! doing so. Seems that in some 1 cases they might be paying more tax than necessary, be- ! cause the state short form is ! tied in to the federal flat tax by percentage, and deductions under state and federal law are different. Seems like we can't get off the tax subject City Marshal i D. A. Smith warns that March I 1st is the final day for paying taxes on your dog, and there . will be a "clean-up" of unlicensed unlic-ensed dogs after that date. Harry M. Karns of Salina, Kansas, former publisher of The Milford News, back in the j Roaring Twenties, was in town recently, visiting his nephew, W. P. Miller, and other old friends. We missed Mr. Karns' visit that was the week we print- ed The News at Delta while awaiting new parts for our typesetting machine. See where a couple of senators sen-ators want congress to pass a law prohibiting liquor advertising adver-tising on radio and television. We presume they expect newspaper news-paper support for their bill, because be-cause 'newspapers could expect more advertising if these two 1 outlets were blocked. But of course most publish- I ers know that this is merely an- ! other smokescreen the professional profes-sional "drys" are using to try for an opening wedge aimed at splitting the country, again, into prohibitionists and anti-prohibitionists, anti-prohibitionists, which would bring about a return to the lush gangster-bootlegging days of 20-odd years ago. A more popular law would be one to keep senators from haranguing their constituents via radio and television. We were unable last week to run down an accurate report on final tally of blood donors who gave their pint of blood when the U P Red Cross car was in Milford. The accepted donors don-ors numbered 100, but somewhere some-where along the line there were a few more rejections for colds, etc., and only 68 pints were actually taken from the donors . We understand the car will visit Milford again in a few months, and plans are being made in advance to tax the facilities fa-cilities of the car. i |
