Seventh grade history students witness driving of Golden Spike Taking advantage of the re-enactment re-enactment of the driving of the golden spike at Promon-i Promon-i tory Summit, the Middle School 7th grade history class taught by John Sparks, saw first hand what they had been reading studying in history books. Seventy Sev-enty students and parents made the trip along with their teacher. teach-er. Assisting with the students were Gary Jones, Mrs. Louise Weight and Mrs. Glen Law. Students Ruth Bartlett and Kristine Mecham gave a brief summary of their trip: "The authentic costumes the men men wore helped the program to be realistic." The program was about the ceremony held 100 years ago. Wrat was quite fascinating was that they had a telegrapher telegra-pher there to send the program and the speeches to the president presi-dent of the United States. They also hooked telegraph wires to the spike so people around the nation could hear the click of the last spike being driven into the last tie. We thought this was a very educational program for anyone any-one to see. This was a very exciting way for us to learn about the history of Utah. We also enjoyed the visitors center |
