Show Hew residence buildings to be built at BYU Bids were opened this week on a contract for the construction construc-tion of a new seven-story residence resi-dence hall in the Deseret Towers Tow-ers complex at Brigham Young University, President Ernest L. Wilkinson said today. President Wilkinson said bids also will be opened later this month on an additional build- ing in the Helaman Halls group northwest of the academic campus. The new high-rise building will be an addition to the present pre-sent cluster of five Deseret Towers northwest of the academic aca-demic campus. The complex, built in 1964, is served by a central cafeteria and administration adminis-tration building. The Deseret Towers provide accomodations for 1320 single students, two to a room, and the new structure will add spaces for 262 students or a total of 1548 in the six build- ings. Two of the present buildings build-ings are for girls and three for men. The new one will house men. The first five of the Helaman Halls were constructed for men in 1958 an dtwo more for women wo-men w-cre added in 1959. The new one will be for women students. The entire complex, which will house about 200 students stu-dents in the eight residence hails, is served by Cannon Center, Cen-ter, central dining an dadmin-istration dadmin-istration building. |
