Show ft eg? o "r - J : Runners leave the starting line as they begin the Fun Run conducted last Saturday at Cedar Breaks National Monument. Both 5- and 10-kilometer runs were conducted with all fun run participants receiving prizes at a drawing following the events. The high altitude and long hills seemed to take their toll on runners as times weren't quite as fast as normal. Five, ten kilometer fun run conducted at Cedar Breaks Cedar Breaks Fun Run was doubled from last year. He is optimistic that the run will continue to become more popular as time goes on. All fun run participants were given certificates with times on them; however, prizes were drawn for at random. CEDAR CITY - First place runners completely out-distanced other runners in the five and ten kilometer Fun Run conducted last Saturday at Cedar Breaks National Monument. In the ten-kilometer event, Southern Utah State College trackster Hernando Hernandez ran at a very quick pace in the high altitude race and crossed the finish line several minutes ahead of other ten-kilometer runners. In the five-kilometer run, Mel Wright, 42, Pleasant View, finished first with no other runners run-ners in sight. Wright also had two of his boys participate in the fun run, both of which set excellent ex-cellent times. The Wright family is on its way to Disneyland for a vacation, but read of the fun run and decided to take time to enter some of the family in the event. "At this altitude it's harder on your lungs than running in a marathon," commented Wright after completing the event way ahead of other runners. Several local runners also turned out for the event a and made excellent ex-cellent showings. The first girl to cross the finish line in the five kilometer event was eight-year-old Annie Marshall.
