Show Costonis chairman Richard Coston of Cedar City has been appointed chairperson of the Cystic Fibrosis Swim-A-Thon, sponsored by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Foun-dation. The appointment of Chairperson Coston was announced by Dr. John Herbst, director of the Cystic Fibrosis Care Clinic at the University of Utah, who noted that funds raised in the event will support research and treatment programs of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The principal goal of research is to find a cure for cystic fibrosis (CF), the number one genetic killer of children and young adults in the United States. At present, cystic fibrosis affects one of every 1,800 births. Approximately half of those born with cystic fibrosis do not live past their teens. "We hope to get the full participation of Cedar City in the event," said Coston. "Together with the hundreds of other volunteers working on similar fund-raising events nationally, we can make a strong impact on the fight to conquer cystic fibrosis." Volunteers are being sought to help with the Cystic Fibrosis Swim-A-Thon. For further information, in-formation, call Coston at 586-7481. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's mission is to find the means for prevention, control, and effective treatment of cystic fibrosis. In addition ad-dition to providing annual research grants to study the causes of the presently incurable disease, the Foundation also supports a network of 128 CF Centers nationally. These CF Centers specialize in diagnosis and medical care for CF patients, as well as services for CF families. |
