Show jtii , i LORIN W.BROWN Former resident in charge of Navy Space programs Commander Lorin W. Brown, a native of I Cedar City, assumed f command of the Navy I Space Systems Activity in Los Angeles during a ceremony held on July 25. As commander of Navy Space Systems Activity, Brown will oversee the Navy's participation in Department of Defense Space Programs in conjunction with the Air Force Space Division located in Los Angeles. Navy Space Systmes Activity is the only Navy Command devoted ex- clusively to the engineering and managment of Space Systems development. Brown was born in Cedar City and received an Associate of Science Degree from the College of Southern Utah and a Bachelor of Science and PHD in Physics from the University of Utah. After receiving his com-misssion com-misssion in 1961 through the Navy ROTC Program at the University of Utah, Brown entered the Naval Flight Program. He flew 131 combat missions from the USS Hanger and USS Enterprise and has received the Distinguished Flying Cross and 14 air medals. His most recent assignment was with the Naval Weapons Evaluation Facility, Albuquerque, N.M., where he served as Head of the High Energy Laser Office. Brown will reside in the Los Angeles area with his wife, Marilynn, and their seven children. |
