Show COAL SLURRY PROJECT PROPOSED AT KAIPAROWITS pressed concern over the fact that 10,000 ac ft of water would be exported to California, but has reserved reserv-ed judgement until more information is available. The two companies have already leased coal and water wat-er rights for 30,000 acft of water on the plateau. The right to export the water would have to be approved by the State Engineer. It is estimated that the feasibility feasi-bility study will take about 15 months to complete. A coal slurry operation using coal from the Kaiparo-wits Kaiparo-wits Plateau is being proposed pro-posed by two California utili-, utili-, ties. The two companies have submitted a proposal to the U.S. Department of Energy Ener-gy to receive $8 million for a feasibility study. The proposed plan provides provid-es for mining 10.5 million mil-lion tons of coal each year. Thai would double Utah's present output. The coal would be moved to sites in Southern California Cali-fornia where it would be gasified for electirical production. pro-duction.
