The GAO is the watchdog agency of Congress. The Davis -Bacon Act regulates reg-ulates wages paid on federally feder-ally funded construction projects. pro-jects. It was passed in 1931 and repeal measures are under consideration now in both the Senate and the House. Davis -Bacon minimum wages, decreed by the Secretary Secre-tary of Labor, are often much higher than prevailing wages in local communities. This drives national construction costs up about $2.9 billion a year. |
