Show By Supt. Lynn Haslem 9 Superintendent of Schools O exists. We do, however, want to meet and reflect community communi-ty needs. Would parents be Interested Inter-ested in P.T.S.A. (Parent-Teacher-Student Association), Associa-tion), or P.T.A.? Would a communityschool council (composed of a cross -sectional school representation) be of value? Do parents prefer pre-fer the present manner of operation? I would be pleased to hear from anyone who would care to respond. Unless concerns are received to the contrary we will assume present practices are satisfactory and respond accordingly. Thank you. Why no P.T.A.? As I participate in meetings, meet-ings, at various levels in State organizations, groups and individuals are always surprised to find that we do not have an active P.T.A. organization in any of the five schools in Beaver County. We are one of three Districts out of forty in the State which are without an active P.T.A. I am neither necessarily critical nor supportive of this position, but I do have some questions, hence the focus of this article this month. We in the School District Administration place heavy priority In encouraging convenient con-venient and meaningful access ac-cess of school patrons and taxpayers to school personnel person-nel and facilities. We try to maintain close contact with the community and to respond to needs and concerns. con-cerns. Our questions today then are: 1. Does the fact that we do not have any active P.T.A. organizations mean that people peo-ple feel adequately involved In the schools now without the need of an additional organization? or-ganization? 2. Does a gap actually exist which an organization such as P.T.A. would help to bridge? 3. Do parents feel a desire to become involved In organizations organ-izations other than P.T.A. which are school related? 4. Are parents presently comfortable in expressing concerns to school officials? If not, why not? We do not want to foster organizations nor encourage more meetings unless aneed |
