Barringer Research of Toronto, Canada and the University of Utah think they can tell the difference in the dust over geothermal reservoirs, and dust from other areas. If so, it would be possible to locate geothermal geo-thermal areas simply by flying over them. Seem farfetched far-fetched well, Barringer Research has developed a sophisticated system such as this to locate minerals and it's very successful. It's the most recent project of the University of Utah operating on a National Science Foundation grant, under the direction of Dr. Stanley Ward.
