Show Sen. Moss Joins WARP In Bid For Amtrack Service The addition of the former form-er Overland Route from Chicago Chi-cago to Los Angeles and Portland, via Ogden and Salt Lake City, to the Amtrak passenger system would be both logical and ultimately profitable, Sentaor Frank E. (Ted) Moss told Department of Transportation officials today. The Senator appeared at a meeting called by the Western West-ern Association of Railroad Passengers (WARP) to press - trak which would have rail passenger service by restoration res-toration of the Overland Route include Cedar Rapids, Grand Island, Boise and Las Vegas. Moss emphasized that the excellent roadbed of the Union Pacific Railroad in the west, and its good equipment, would mean no upgrading would be required to provide pro-vide comfortable passenger transportation at a reasonable reason-able rate of speed. He said that state and local lo-cal officials in Utah unanimously unani-mously supported the designation desig-nation of the Overland Route. (Editor's Note): Milford residents re-sidents strongly supported WARP by filling out questionnaires ques-tionnaires run in the News. for designation of the Overland Over-land Route as the 1975 Amtrak Am-trak experimental route. He was joined by Congressmen and Senators from other states along the 1,000 mile route. "I can't overemphasize the really great interest among the people of Utah, and the West, in having the additional rail passenger service that restoration of the Overland Route would provide," Moss said. "Very few other selections could fill the range of needs that this route would fill. It would not only provide direct service ser-vice between a number of midwestern, western and west coast cities, but would give service to many communities, com-munities, both large and small, now entirely without passenger trains. It would also establish easier access to our many national parks and monuments, and other recreational areas in the summer, and to heavilyused ski areas in the winter. It would be greatly utilized by the people." In addition to Salt Lake City, other large cities not now being serviced byAm- |
