Show TIGERS SHOW IMPROVEMENT JUST OVERNIGHT For those of you fans who left after the 1st quarter of the game against Tabiona last Friday Fri-day night, come back and give this ball team another chance. You missed three-quarters of real fine ball on Friday night and probably as exciting a game as you can find anywhere against Duchesne. As a matter of fact, for downright down-right good 'ball, and close contests, con-tests, Duchesne took the cake both nights, losing Friday to Lincoln County bv one point and beating Milford by the same margin on Saturday. The tournament got underway under-way at 6:30 p.m. with Lincoln County going against Duchesne. Duchesne took an early lead, but Lincoln gradually caught up and won it by 1 point. Milford challenged Tabiona, but not from the start. The Tigers were only able to pick up 2 points in the first quarter and trailed at the quarter by 20 points. They were never able to overcome this deficit, though they gained consistently with scores at half time of 19-32, 3rd quarter 28-41 and got within with-in 6 points at the end of the game, 44-51. Smith had 11 and Barnes 8 for Milford. Lefler dunked 16 for game high scorer. Saturday night was a differ-erent differ-erent story. Though Duchesne drew first score, Milford stayed right in there and the score never spread more than 5 points from beginning to end. Both teams went cold near the end of the 3rd quarter and went nearly 5 minutes without lighting the scoreboard until Darcy Winn finally put Milford ahead 33-32 with 5:50 remaining. remain-ing. Another three minutes went by with neither team hitting from the floor until Moon hit for Ductyasne from about 8 ft. to make the score 37-38 with 2:40 left in the ball game. Both teams then opened up with the lead changing twice more before Winn was fouled with 27 sec left and the score 39-40 Duchesne. The freethrow was missed and Barnes fouled Ibach who dunped two to give Duchesne a 3 point lead. Barnes got two for Milford to make the final score 41-42. See box score on back page. A number of boys looked real good this week. Smith, even with his sore foot was working the boards well and showed the sharpest shooting eye for Milford. Cook as usual was in there fighting. Barnes was second sec-ond high with 9 and looked like he might be coming into his own. White, and Winn both showed some good rebounding and a fair eye. The JV played on Saturday night against Duschne due to both Tabiona and Lincoln County having other commitments commit-ments on Saturday. Duchesne led all the way but Milford was never out of it until the last quarter when Duchesne pulled away to a 52-36 win. Jones looked good on the boards and the scoring for Milford Mil-ford went: Mayer 9, Albrecht and Elmer both 6; Yardley and R. Smith each 5; Jones 3 and Edwards with 2. |
