Show TWO NEW NATIONAL PARKS FOR UTAH? The Senate Interior Committee Commit-tee reported to the Senate two bills introduced by Senator Frank E. Moss, a member of the committee. The bills would create two new National Parks. Capitol Reef National Park and Arches National . Park. The Monuments bearing these names will be abolished. Both new National Parks are smaller small-er in area than the National Monuments which they replace. Senator Moss said passage of the bills would achieve two goali sought by the people of Utah. First, passage of the bills would mean that Utah would have five national parks, more than any other state in the Union. This is indicative "of Utah's superlative scenery. Second, the bills reduce the acreage presently included in the National Monuments as they were expanded by Presidential Presi-dential proclamation in January, Janu-ary, 1969. Noting that road construction is of primary concern, Senator Moss said that the report to the Department of Interior which will accompany the bill specifically spells out the fact that the Senate Interior Committee Com-mittee endorses the Utah Stats program of providing adequate scenic highways leading to the parks. |
