Show LLOYD ASKS HEARING ON U. P. PETITION i Rep. Sherman P. Lloyd has asked the Interstate Commerce Commission to re-issue its order or-der for public hearings on the application of Union Pacific to discontinue trains Nos. 5 and 6 between Omaha and Los Angeles. An-geles. , The application, which had been previously filed but withdrawn with-drawn due to a technicality, was submitted again by U. P. on Jan. 24. The trains would be taken out of service Feb. 26. Tn a lpttpr tn tlio T C C TJ Lloyd pointed out that since the commission had ordered an investigation in the first , application, "it is proper and desirable that public hearings be ordered again to give those who depend on these trains a chance to submit their views." "... I believe the public convenience and necessity should be fully weighed before final decision is reached," Rep-Lloyd Rep-Lloyd said. The Utahn said the trains serve 36 Utah communities, many of which will be without adequate public transportation if the trains are allowed to be withdrawn from service. Rep. Lloyd said if the ICC grants the request for an investigation, in-vestigation, the hearings will be conducted along the route of the trains.. |
