Show By Coach Bab Andrus As I sat in the Barber's chair Saturday morning, the stories about how Russell Yardley was, were flying everywhere. I think it's time the real story came out. I was in contact wiith the hospital every morning to f .nd out Russell's condition and each time he- was reported doing well Russell has four broken ribs and he did have a collapsed lung, which has since been inflated. in-flated. Russell will be out for the rest of the footbal season, but Dr. Symond tells me that he will be ready to go for wrestling. Dr. Symond also says that if Russell continues to improve as he is, he will be back in school in a few days. When someone falls off his bike and gets hurt, no one hears about it, or if someone falls and gets hurt, nothing is said; and these things happen everyday. Let one football player get hurt and stories start flying, people start calling and trying to get football cut out of the school, or at least to get the players' parents so upset, that they pull their sons out of the program. Football is just the game of life, and it takes more "guts" for a person to play this sport than any other. You don't coach a person to hurt another person, you coach them to play hard and as long as everyone is playing play-ing hard, there will be fewer accidents. ac-cidents. We've had more accidents playing flag football than we've had during the season in regular football. Football is the only sport that really teaches teamwork and courage. If one player lets down, the whole team goes down with him. Please- give football a chance. My players are just like my own sons, I do everything 1 can to prevent such injuries. Friday is Homecoming against the Lincoln County Lynx; I and all of the players ask your support, sup-port, and hope to see you at the game. |
