Show A DELICIOUS DUTCH TREAT Begin your next party on a flavorful note with these supeib nibblers. They can be made in minutes. Wonderful as an appetizer appe-tizer or beverage accompaniment, these delicious Holland cheese fritters will have everyone coming biick for "just one more." Try the variations, too. Holland Cheese Fritters 2 cups shredded imported -1 tablespoon minced onion Holland Edam or Gouda 2 eggs, beaten 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour Cooking oil for deep-fat 1 teaspoon baking powder frying Mix shredded Holland cheese, flour, baking powder and onion. Add beaten egg and stir until cheese is evenly distributed in the batter. In a deep skillet or saucepan, heat cooking oil, about 2 inches deep, to 375F. Carefully dr.tp teaspoonfuls of batter into oil. Cook 2-3 minutes until fritters are golden brown, turning once during the cooking period. Drain on absorbent paper. Serve hot. Makes 3 dozen cheese fritters. If desired, fritters can be prepared in advance and kept in the freezer, up to 3 months. To reheat and serve, place frozen fritters on baking sheet in 350F. oven for 5-7 minutes. Variations: Salmon Add 1 (3-34 ounce) can salmon, drained and flaked, and 12 teaspoon lemon juice. Shrimp Add 12 cup chopped cooked shrimp and 12 teaspoon tea-spoon minced dill weed. Apple Omit onion. Add 12 cup chopped apple and 18 teaspoon cinnamon. |
